Woman accused of kidnapping daughter from school to appear in court

Neely Blanchard and Ferdauss Rahmatullah

BERKELEY COUNTY, SC (WCSC)- The woman accused of kidnapping her daughter from Westview Primary School in Goose Creek earlier this month is expected in court on Thursday.

Court officials say 26-year-old Neely Blanchard, from Florida, is scheduled to answer to trespassing charges at 2 p.m.

Goose Creek police say Blanchard and another Florida woman, 25-year-old Ferdauss Rahmatullah, pulled Blanchard’s daughter out of her Head Start class before school was in session on May 2. Highway patrol troopers caught the duo as they were heading west on Interstate 26 a short time later.

According to police, Rahmatullah was found driving the car with Blanchard as a passenger. Investigators say Blanchard was also found in illegal possession of prescription pills.

The child was found safe and returned to her paternal grandmother, the legal guardian.

Autistic senior excelling, graduating from Goose Creek High School

Rhyan Coleman speaks with Ann McGill.

GOOSE CREEK, SC (WCSC)- It's high school graduation time and while we applaud every student who marches to "Pomp and Circumstance," this accomplishment is very special for one student in particular. Rhyan Coleman is graduating from Goose Creek High School in the top 25% of his class. He plans to attend college and he's autistic.

Students in Ms. Smith's physics class are learning about conditions in space by testing the question, "Can you play golf on the moon?"

Rhyan Coleman is one of her eager students taking the lead when it's time for small group discussion.

"Describe how difficulty with walking or running on the moon would affect at least one sport."

Rhyan's leadership and communication skills are proof of just how far he has come, living with autism.

"When I was in the beginning, I couldn't even get, I couldn't talk to anyone. I was just that shy, just that shy.... then I started reading."
